Families in Toombs, Montgomery, Bulloch and Candler Counties are assisted in a similar manner each time a disaster strikes.  Disasters like fires, floods, and tornados have increased in the past years.  Things like the economy, changes in weather or prolonged extreme weather, and lack of preparedness have influenced the increase and severity of these disasters.  Not every disaster gets national or even local media attention, but locally, the Bulloch County Chapter of the American Red Cross is always there.  Volunteers and staff are on call 24/7 and respond when paged.  Donations to the Red Cross (a United Way agency) fund the assistance provided to victims.  Fundraisers like Red Cross Sunday, Dress Down Day, & Hometown Hero Campaign enable local residents to receive the assistance.  Anyone wishing to particpate in the local fundraisers or volunteer their time to assist disaster victims should contact the Bulloch County Chapter  at 912-764-4468 or the Toombs-Montgomery Service Center at 912-526-3150.
